Volunteers needed for Open Streets BTV 2015 in September

I am so very excited to tell you that Local Motion is again teaming up with the City of Burlington to bring you Open Streets BTV 2015 on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm! Get ready for another transformative day of car-free streets in Burlington’s Old North End neighborhood with plenty of space for people to bike, stroll, roll, dance, skate and celebrate!
Volunteers make this day of outdoor, neighborhood and family fun possible! We hope that you will consider signing up for one of the many volunteer opportunities available for this event. Counters estimated 2,000 participants last year and volunteers play a critical role in keeping the event safe and fun! This year, we are looking for over 80 volunteers to watch over closed intersections, provide information to participants and escort local traffic so that the route can remain safe and car-free. Go to this link to sign up NOW!
Sign up soon for your preferred locations, buddies and jobs! And remember, there is plenty of time to participate in Open Streets BTV before and after your volunteer shift.
But first…here are a few reasons to volunteer for Open Streets BTV:
2014 volunteers rocking the orange!
  • A really cool volunteer t-shirt! We are topping last year’s bright orange shirts with something spectacular for you to have as an exclusive Open Streets BTV volunteer keepsake.
  • City Market working member hours. All volunteers are eligible to count their Open Streets BTV shift and training time towards City Market working member volunteer hours.
  • Free bus, bike parking and car share vouchers. Signing up to volunteer enters you to win CCTA, CarShare Vermont and BikeLink electronic access bike parking credits.
  • Building a community movement for safe walking and biking. Events like this are key to illustrating to community leaders the sheer number of people who want to walk and bike, and that creating safe streets should be a priority.

Open Streets BTV 2015 Volunteer Positions

Sign up for one of the volunteer positions below. This year, we have added an exciting NEW volunteer position – the Super Cyclist Escort! As always, a helpful attitude and calm demeanor is necessary for all positions.
  • Intersection Superheroes. Help watch over closed intersections and redirect vehicle traffic off of the Open Streets BTV route – 48 volunteers needed!
  • Information Superstars. Provide helpful, friendly information to Open Streets BTV participants – 24 volunteers needed!
  • Super Cyclist Escorts. Safely escort local vehicular traffic off the route by bike – 16 volunteers needed!
