After a year+ pilot of collecting paper towels for compost, we’ve expanded our program to include all of IDX, Freeman and Joyce Halls. (Most other bathrooms on campus have hand dryers). This project deepens an already interesting story of our paper towels, which are part of the “Power of Three” line – a project of Casella, SCA Paper, and Foley Distributing. Essentially, our paper towels are made from the paper we, and others, recycle at the Chittenden Solid Waste District’s Recycling Facility. Now, instead of these paper towels winding up in the landfill, they will go to Green Mountain Compost to be composted and turned into soil to grow food and other plants. A closed loop system gets even better!
