May 9 volunteer opportunity – give the city’s gardens a spring boost

Here’s a unique volunteer opportunity coming up next month with VCGN.  Maybe your first chance to get your hands in the dirt this season…?

Day in the Dirt! – Saturday, May 9

Burlington’s community and school gardens feed and connect thousands of people. YOU can help give these gardens a spring boost at Day in the Dirt! on Saturday, May 9. Teams of volunteers will work on school and community garden projects around the city from 9am to noon – moving compost, building garden beds, fixing fences, and getting the gardens ready for planting – then gather for a lunch celebration and prizes at the Intervale. Everyone gets a free T-shirt, a great lunch, and the opportunity to make a big difference in the community. You can earn City Market member worker hours, too!

Day in the Dirt! is presented by the Vermont Community Garden Network with the assistance of UVM Public Communication Capstone students and in partnership with Burlington Parks Recreation & Waterfront, the Intervale Center, and Green Mountain Compost. The title sponsor is Gardener’s Supply. Site sponsors are University of Vermont Medical Center, City Market, Redstone, Burton, Dealer.com, Seventh Generation, Skinny Pancake, New Moon, lululemon athletica, and Green Mountain Compost.  Lunch and prizes are generously donated by American Flatbread, New Moon, Rhino Foods, Chubby Muffin, Cotton Candy Connection, Vermont Brewers Festival, Pizza Verita, Skinny Pancake, City Market, Healthy Living, Magic Hat, Burton, Bee’s Wrap, and CarShare Vermont.

Sign up by April 24 at https://vcgn.org/day-in-the-dirt.

As always, volunteer hours with VCGN are eligible for fulfilling City Market Member Worker hours.
