CENTER for EARTH MINISTRY & VOICES for the LAKE
The Center for Earth Ministry, a part of All Souls Interfaith
Gathering in Shelburne, will be partnering with ECHO Lake
Aquarium over the next several years to cosponsor a gathering
of groups concerned with the welfare of Lake Champlain’s
waters in a “Voices for the Lake” initiative. Groups involved
include farmers, recreation groups, and government agencies in
Vermont, New York, and Quebec. They hope to reach a shared
goal, and to identify critical resources that will enable them to
move in a unified direction. This would be an example of two
states and two countries working together to find a solution to a
critical environmental problem. For more information, contact
The Rev. Mary Abele: jubilate@allsoulsinterfaith.org
CHURCHES CALLED to TAKE LEADERSHIP on CLIMATE
In this article, Tim DeChristopher calls on churches to not just
show up for actions on climate change, but to take a leadership
role and to “be faithful to what we love.” Here’s the link:
CLIMATE ACTION CALL from ANGLICAN BISHOPS
Anglican bishops from all six continents met recently in South
Africa and released this declaration, “The World Is Our Host: A
Call to Urgent Action for Climate Justice.” Read it here:
GREEN the CHURCH”: Mobilizing Black Churches
The “Green the Church” movement includes a partnership
between Green For All, an environmental and justice organiza-
tion, and the U.S. Green Building Council. It “aims to bring
the benefits of sustainability directly to black communities”
and works with churches on renewable energy and energy
efficiency projects. Through education and outreach to black
church-goers, it seeks to tap into the African-American church’s
power as moral leader and a force for social change, and works
to mobilize them to take action on climate change. Read more:
POPE FRANCIS: Powerful Messenger for Climate Change
Pope Francis will soon release an encyclical, an important
church teaching, which will be focused on environmental
issues. It’s expected to influence public debate in a powerful
way. And the Pope, as messenger, will have a profound impact.
CATHOLIC GROUPS URGE CLIMATE DEAL THIS YEAR
Catholic groups are urging world leaders to reach a climate deal
in Paris this year. The groups launched a petition calling for
large reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and helping
vulnerable communities prepare for global warming impacts.
KATHARINE HAYHOE: Climate Evangelist
A climate scientist’s short video (less than 3 min.) about this
important work from her Christian perspective.
