In collaboration with Unity College and with partner support from Catskill Mountainkeeper, we are:
* Offering a 10-day immersion ending at Power Shift 2013 in Pittsburgh.
* Taking up to 18 students to learn about divestment from fossil fuels and to experience dirty energy extraction and issues at the frontlines of coal mountaintop removal and hydrofracking.
* Supporting the growing leadership for a new energy future.
* Facilitating students learning organizing and communication skills to apply now and in the future.
* Making it possible for the most qualified candidates to “get on the bus” for a minimal cost through our fundraising efforts specifically for this immersion. Students will pay a small fee compared to the actual cost (or put it another way: We will provide significant, up to 90%, scholarships).
* Holding true to EEI’s educational pillars: 1) authentic first-hand experience of pressing environmental issues, 2) learning community of students and faculty, and 3) environment as educator.
* Working with inspiring organizations who have committed recruiting support or have endorsed this offering: Energy Action Coalition, Power Shift 2013, 350.org, Swarthmore Mountain Justice, and Coal River Mountain Watch.
