VTrans climate change internship

VTrans is extending the application deadline for the VTrans climate change internship.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking candidates for the agency’s climate change and transportation internship program. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply for this paid internship that begins in October 2015 through April 2016 and is based in Montpelier, VT. The intern will conduct research and assist in planning activities to support VTrans’ climate change and energy planning and climate change adaptation work being undertaken in coordination with the state of Vermont’s Climate Cabinet. Topics include:

  • Transportation energy data sources and consumption trends in Vermont
  • Transportation and greenhouse gas emissions planning
  • Research, planning and initiatives to increase electric vehicles on VT roadways\Water quality and Vermont roadways
  • VTrans flood resilience planning

In addition, the intern will assist in tracking environmental bills and state legislative deliberations beginning in January 2016.

Examples of tasks to be undertaken:

  • Report writing
  • Data gathering and analyses
  • Literature searches and other basic research activities
  • Tracking state and federal legislative activity
  • Preparing presentations and information for the general public
  • Facilitating collaboration among stakeholders such as organizing meetings, preparing agendas, taking notes

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate or graduate degree in an environmental-related field and excellent writing and communication skills. Knowledge of federal and state transportation policy is preferred. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to gina.campoli@state.vt.us no later than September 1, 2015.
