2017 Sustainable Campus Index Lists Top Performers
The 2017 Sustainable Campus Index recognizes top-performing colleges and universities in 17 sustainability impact areas and overall by institution type, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). Top performers overall by institution type are Appalachian State University (master’s); Nova Scotia Community College (associate); Stanford University (doctoral/research); and Sterling College (baccalaureate). Also included in the report are innovative and high-impact initiatives.

Messiah College Offsets Printing With Planting
The college is participating in PrintReleaf, which allows organizations to reduce their environmental impact by automatically planting trees to offset their paper consumption. Through the program, Messiah plants an average of six trees per month in Madagascar.

2018 International Sustainable Campus Conference Call for Abstracts

The theme of the 2018 International Sustainable Campus Conference is Sustainable Development: Acting with Purpose. The conference is scheduled for June 11-13, 2018, in Stockholm, Sweden. Abstracts are due Dec. 15.

College & University Green Power Challenge

Throughout the 2017-18 academic year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership will track and rank U.S. collegiate athletic conferences based on combined green power usage. The program includes any collegiate athletic conference in the U.S. with at least two U.S. EPA Green Power Partners and an aggregate green power purchase of at least 10 million kilowatt-hours.

Guide to Making Claims About Your Solar Power Use

The Guide to Making Claims About Your Solar Power Use, released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, describes best practices for appropriately explaining and characterizing solar power activities and the fundamental importance of renewable energy certificates for solar power use claims. This guidance is primarily focused on claims associated with on-site projects but is also relevant for off-site owned projects.
