Human Rights & Responsibilities Presentation: Lessons from Thistle Farms – Nov. 7

, all – Next Monday evening Becca Stevens, an Episcopal priest who has done significant work with victims of human trafficking in the South, will be speaking on campus at 7:30PM in the Perry Presentation Room.  A more complete bio as well as a couple of links appear below my signature, and I’ve attached a poster to this message.  Additionally, two or three survivor-leaders, women with whom Becca has worked, will be in attendance with her.  Their talk is entitled, “Human Rights and Responsibilities:  Lessons from Thistle Farms.”

Products from Thistle Farms, the largest social justice enterprise in the US run by women survivors, will be available for purchase after the talk.

I hope you’ll be able to join us for an inspiring talk, which is co-sponsored by the Core Division and the EHS Division.  Please share this information with your students and encourage them to come!

Best wishes, Betsy

Becca Stevens is the founder of Magdalene, a residential program for women in recovery from addiction, prostitution, and human trafficking. Thistle Farms, the largest social justice enterprise in the US run by women survivors, grew out of the need to provide employment opportunities for Magdalene’s residents and graduates. Today, Thistle Farms produces luscious bath and body products and distributes fair trade teas and crafts produced by women around the world. The stories of these ministries and the lives that are forever changed are truly inspiring.

Becca is an Episcopal priest, author, speaker, social entrepreneur, wife, mother, and role model.  When she travels to speaking engagements, several survivor-leaders always travel with her.  These are women with history on the streets who have benefited from Magdalene and Thistle Farms.
