LEND A HAND. VOLUNTEER – United Way’s Volunteer Connection site is set up to help connect agencies and volunteers. Agencies are working hard to navigate volunteering during this time, but opportunities are increasing. Here is a link for Volunteer Connection to learn more about these and other opportunities.

LET’S DO LUNCH – Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) Daystation provides a free noontime meal every day and is always in need of volunteers to help provide this important service.  Groups or individuals can prepare and bring in (and serve, if desired) a meal or prepare a partially completed meal in their kitchen space.  Volunteers should plan to feed up to 50 people a healthy, well-balanced meal.  Soups and casseroles are typical fare along with fruit or a low-sugar dessert.  Contact Romy Theisen at 802-864-7402 or email romyt@cotsonline.org.

GETTING RESULTS – RESULTS is a country-wide movement calling for solutions to poverty in the U.S. and around the world.  Staff and volunteers work together to pass policies that will lead to a vision of a world free of poverty.  Volunteers typically spend 4-6 hours a month taking advocacy actions such as speaking with policymakers about problems in the community and solutions that can make a difference, publishing media to call attention to problems that need to be addressed and connecting with others in the community to build a powerful network of advocates.  Learn more at http://www.results.org/volunteer.

HOME FOR THE HOMELESS – ANEW Place is looking for volunteers at its North Street shelter to engage with guests in a variety of areas.  The shelter is a sober living environment for homeless individuals who have at least 30 days of sobriety before entering.  Ideally, they are looking for volunteers from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday-Sunday which includes eating dinner with guests at 7 p.m.  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and be vaccinated against COVID.  A background check is also required.  Contact Andre Clark at aclark@newplacevt.org.

THE GIFT OF SHARING – HomeShare Vermont needs volunteers to make phone calls from their office to take reference information for applicants in order to ensure safety, security and compatibility in home sharing matches.    Strict confidentiality and basic computer skills are needed.  About 2 hours a week with flexible scheduling.  Background check required.  Contact Kirby Dunn at 802-863-5625 or email kirby@homesharevermont.org.

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity is looking for student volunteers, age 16 and older, for its ReStores in Williston and Milton.  Shifts are flexible on weekdays and weekends, and no experience is needed.  Tasks include sorting clothing, unloading donations, pricing small home goods and stocking shelves, testing electronics, keeping the store tidy and organized.  Contact Bridget Mientka at 802-598-0355 or email bmientka@vermonthabitat.org.
