At Fair Trade USA, we recognize the interconnectedness of planet and people, and the critical role that fair trade plays in promoting the prosperity of both. For us to thrive and create a world that can sustain all of us for the future, we must equally focus on all three of the core pillars of sustainability – environmental, social, and economic. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) do just that, and Fair Trade USA’s rigorous standards contribute directly to six of them. By ensuring that producers and their families can meet their social and economic needs, we are able to work together to invest in cleaner technology, efficiencies, environmentally-friendly production, climate change resiliency, and protecting the environment. Fair Trade & the SDGs The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity and economic growth, while protecting the planet and upholding basic human rights.
