Winter Biking… a challenge, workshop and socializing!

Hello Champlain,
It looks like winter is back! Never fear though, those plows will be out in full force and by Monday im sure our streets will be clear as can be so that…

  • Starting Monday, the second annual Vermont Winter Bike/Walk Challenge will run from February 10th to the 21st! This is an awesome opportunity for Vermonters to get outside during the winter and try out cold-weather biking and/or walking, and win prizes in the process! Organized by Local Motion and Go! Vermont, the Challenge encourages Vermonters to use alternative and active forms of transportation, which also happen to be healthy and effective ways to reduce Vermont’s carbon footprint. To take part, participants simply record at least two walk or bike trips during the challenge period in the Go! Vermont app. Multi-modal commutes that combine walking, biking, or running with transit also count towards the Challenge. Participants who record at least two trips (easy right?) will be entered for random drawings of prizes, including $25 gift cards to Darn Tough Socks, Outdoor Gear Exchange, and Gardener’s supply, and season passes to Local Motion’s Island Line Bike Ferry.  The Go! Vermont app can be downloaded from Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
  • Friday February 14th (yes Valentines Day) is a chance to show some bike love and come to work via bike as part of International Winter Bike to Work Day. We will be hosting another Winter Biking Workshop and Social at 10am in the CCM Commuter Lounge. Come to learn from Sarah Camille Wilson on how easy it actually is to bike in the winter and indulge in some bagels and coffee. We will have a raffle for some bike locks and bar mitts (look em up) too.
  • Lastly, if coffee and ice skating are also your jam, join us at Calahan Park for “CoffeeoutsideBTV” on Friday the 14th at 8:30am. This is a monthly group meetup for folks who like bikes and coffee (or tea) and is simply a chance to socialize. See the fun at https://www.facebook.com/events/996048644107781/

Ride on,

Nic
