Lily here, VPIRG’s Climate and Energy Fellow! It is a busy week for climate action in Vermont, and I wanted to draw your attention to two upcoming events that I think you will enjoy.

Climate Progress? A Mid-Session Legislative Update
Virtual via Zoom, Wednesday, February 16th 12:00 – 1:30 PM
Join VPIRG’s Climate & Equity Advocate Sebbi Wu and other climate activists tomorrow at noon for a mid-session update on climate legislation in the statehouse. This virtual conversation is the latest in the #ActOnClimateVT coalition’s Climate Action Works webinar series and is cohosted by Vermont Conservation Voters and VECAN. In this workshop, get an overview of what’s happening in the 2022 legislative session to advance clean energy and climate progress. On the heels of the first required Climate Action Plan and an unprecedented amount of federal funding at the state’s fingertips, hear what policy makers are advancing, what that could mean for climate progress and for you and your communities.

Climate SOS Rally
In-Person on the state house lawn, Friday, February 18th 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
It has been a while since we gathered in person to show support and demand action on climate justice, so join us this Friday for a day of action and art! Co-sponsored by 350VT, Youth Lobby, Fridays for the Future, BALE, Rights and Democracy, Vermont Renews Coalition, VT AFL-CIO, Standing Trees, and Vermont Extinction Rebellion, this event will feature an art installation of “waves rising up to the State House,” singing, inspirational speeches, hot cider and, weather permitting, a snow message to sculpt. Participants are asked to bring a flotation device to become one of the “swimmers” seeking rescue from the climate emergency. If possible, please bring an ocean-colored tarp or sheet to add to the waves, and if there is snow, a snow shovel to help build snow letters. The inclement weather date is Saturday February 19th at the same time.
Reach out to jaiel@350vt.org for more information, and use this carpool form to help facilitate transportation if you’re able!
Please wear a mask, and stay home if you have symptoms.
