The District periodically updates its Ordinance for various reasons: to stay current and in line with state regulations, to allow us to more effectively manage solid waste in the District, or even to just make it easier to read and understand. The Chittenden Solid Waste District is empowered by the State of Vermont to enact ordinances to ensure that recyclables, compostables, trash, landfill-banned waste, and other discarded materials are managed in an efficient, economical, and environmentally sound manner in Chittenden County. The CSWD Solid Waste Management Ordinance regulates how these materials are separated, collected, and transported and how the public is made aware of these requirements. It implements and furthers the District’s Solid Waste Implementation Plan and the State’s Materials Management Plan.
