Urgent: School and Community Meals Programs Need You!

Dear Community Volunteers,

We need your help to respond to an urgent need to get food to children and older adults in our community.

There are many ways you can help…if you have time to give, we will match you with the opportunity that best fits your schedule!

Immediate help is needed in these areas:

Meals on Wheels Drivers: Use your vehicle to deliver pre-made meals to vulnerable community members. Time commitment is based on your availability, but meal delivery occurs weekday mornings. The greatest need is in Burlington, Winooski, Essex, St. Albans, and Swanton.

Public Schools: School foodservice professionals have stepped up massively through the pandemic to provide food for our communities. However, due to staffing shortages, many children are now at risk of losing those supports. Help serve lunchtime meals, assist with meal distribution at open pick-up sites, operate hallway trolley and distribute meals to classrooms, or provide simple afterschool programming so a meal can be provided and more.

Senior Housing: Memory Care Housing at Allen Brook (Williston) OR Cathedral Square Senior Living (Burlington) urgently seek help. Many volunteer options are available:
Help onsite: help prepare, serve, and clean up the community meal (menu and ingredients for meals will be purchased and paid for by Cathedral Square).
Cook From Your Home:  Prepare family-style meals and/or desserts in disposable, freezer/oven-ready containers (pasta, soups, stews, casseroles, etc. or cookies, bars, cupcakes). Coordinate and drop meals off to staff.

If you can help, please contact Trezanra at trezanra@unitedwaynwvt.org as soon as possible.

The need is immediate and great.

Thank you for all that you do to support our community.

With gratitude,
Megan
