| Social Impact Scholars Intersections Series Fall 2021 Social Impact and Public Policy: Racism as a Public Health Emergency Date: Thursday, October 28th, 7-8:30pm (click here to add to your calendar Our AMAZING panelists! Sarah George, Chittenden County State’s Attorney in Burlington Tyeastia Green, Director of Racial Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at City of Burlington, Vermont Skyler Nash, Justice & Public Policy Manager for the City of Burlington Racial Equity Inclusion and Belonging Department Marielle Matthews, Public Health Equity Manager at City of Burlington Bob Wolford, retired director of the Coordinator of Criminal Justice Programs for the Howard Center in Burlington, VT and adjunct instructor at Champlain College Tarn Foerg, Field Coordinator-Social Work Program, Champlain College Jon Murad, Acting Chief, Burlington Police Department Each panelist will introduce and briefly discuss their own connection to the issue (“When a city declares racism is a public health emergency, how do you approach that statement? What context do you bring to that statement?”), followed by a discussion of issues such as the history of police practices in America, alternate forms of community intervention, healthcare system and COVID policy issues that disproportionately affect BIPOC communities, and future policy steps that might/should be taken by Burlington and around the country.
