Nominate yourself or others to serve on a Climate Council subcommittee for the state of Vermont

As you might know, the work of the Vermont Climate Council is underway, developing a plan for how Vermont will meet the emissions reductions required by the Global Warming Solutions Act, which became law last fall. A significant part of the Council’s work will take place in subcommittees, four of which are required by statute.

Those subcommittees include 1) Cross Sector Mitigation (which will focus primarily on transportation, buildings and the electric sector/efficiency sectors); 2) Rural Resilience and Adaptation, 3) Agriculture and Ecosystems and 4) Just Transitions (which will focus on how to serve all populations equitably during a transition to clean energy). A Science and Data subcommittee will also be established.

Do you have important expertise, experience and perspective to bring to this effort? Do you know others who do? The timeline to nominate yourself or others to serve on these subcommittees has been extended to this Friday, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m.

You can fill out the official Climate Council subcommittee nomination form here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VTClimateCouncilPlease share this opportunity widely! Most subcommittees will be comprised of 4-6 Climate Council members and a similar number of public members.

We are looking for members who will represent a broad set of perspectives and expertise, and who bring a solutions-oriented approach to the work. The subcommittees will play a key role in creating the state’s Climate Action Plan, and setting out the path to achieving our pollution reduction goals – while helping guide how that progress is made.

Please help ensure a breadth of expertise and variety of lived experiences and perspectives are at the table in service of this important work. Throw your name in the hopper, nominate others, share this opportunity broadly with your networks and help cast as wide a net as possible!

While this effort is ramping up quickly, and the subcommittees will begin working soon, this climate planning effort will be underway for many years. The Solutions Act requires the first-ever, full focus of state government on climate action. This is the beginning of operationalizing a process, a plan and public engagement strategies in service of Vermont doing its part to address the climate crisis.

Fill out or forward this survey – and the opportunity to shape Vermont’s future – today!

With thanks,
Johanna Miller
Energy and Climate Program Director, VNRC

P.S. Please note that whether or not you’re able or selected to serve on a subcommittee of the Climate Council, there will be numerous opportunities to participate in the process, and we will need everyone weighing in along the way to shape the best possible plan for Vermont. Stay up to date with the Climate Council here.
