Three Universities Form Racial Justice Consortium

As the Charlotte Racial Justice Consortium, the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Johnson C. Smith University and Queens University of Charlotte will collaborate to understand their history of race and racism, and develop student, university and community leaders who work across the region toward truth, racial healing and equity. The effort is supported by the consortium’s selection as a Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center by the American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U).

William & Mary Signs Power Purchase Agreement

The recently signed 20-year power purchase agreement is for the output of a 20-megawatt photovoltaic system that is projected to generate approximately 50 percent of the university’s electricity needs. The production of solar energy at the farm will likely begin in 2021. William & Mary expects the contract will begin to save the university money after about six years.

Call for Proposals: 2019 AASHE Conference & Expo

February 28 is the last day to submit a proposal and/or sign up to be a reviewer for AASHE 2020, happening Oct 4-7 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Themed Mobilizing for a Just Transition, the conference will focus on centering justice within the transition from an extractive economy to a regenerative one. All accepted presenters receive a discount applicable to full conference registration. The deadline to submit a proposal will not be extended.

AASHE Workshop: Sustainability Across the Curriculum Leadership

Learn how to lead curriculum change for sustainability by participating in a two-day workshop based on the philosophy of change in higher education developed through the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University and adapted at Emory in the Piedmont Project. Readings and organizational materials are provided. Applications close March 16.

Sustainability Professionals Retreat

The 2020 Sustainability Professionals Retreat will help you accelerate your ability to effectively and courageously engage your campus community around the unfolding climate crisis and its implications for higher education and society. Applications close May 1.

2020 AASHE Webinar Schedule

The 2020 schedule of AASHE webinars includes topics in sustainability in higher education, such as climate change and solutions, environmental justice, sustainable food, green teams, institutionalizing sustainability, engagement programs and so much more. Also, winners from the 2019 Sustainability Awards program will present webinars on their winning projects. The webinars are free for anyone to join. AASHE members can access the archive of video recordings and presentation materials in the Campus Sustainability Hub.

University Award for Innovative Civic Engagement

The University Award for Innovative Civic Engagement is a pilot grant program to discover novel research and learning strategies for university civic engagement among Talloires Network member universities. It provides direct support for the local expansion of civic engagement partnerships to build more equal and inclusive societies. It also aims to facilitate critical reflection as well as dialogue and exchange among awardees and members of the network. The deadline is April 6.

MobilizeU Ambassadors

Students are invited to sign up to be ambassadors for MobilizeU’s Earth Day event, Earthrise, happening on April 22, 2020, which is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Ambassadors help organize the Earthrise event for their university.

MobilizeU Green Campus Network

The Earth Day Network invites campuses to join MobilizeU’s Green Campus Network. By joining the network, campuses will join others in magnifying the effect of Earth Day.
