U Edinburgh Invests Millions in Low Carbon Companies
(U.K.) The university recently moved $79.3 million (60 million pounds) of its investments into two funds that businesses that support a cleaner, more sustainable and climate-friendly future. One fund invests in companies that tackle a range of sustainability issues, including green products, low-carbon infrastructure, sustainable water, energy and food, while the second fund direct supports a global transition to low-carbon and renewable energy.

U California Berkeley Partners to Improve Animal Welfare Through Purchasing
Cal Dining at the University of California Berkeley and Farm Forward recently announced the launch of the Leadership Circle, a program that leverages the buying power of institutions to change the way animals are raised for food. Members of the Leadership Circle commit to purchase only third-party certified, higher-welfare products in at least one product category within two years.

AASHE Member Discount: 10% Off Sustainability & Behavior Change Certificate

AASHE members can receive a 10 percent discount on tuition for all courses associated with the Sustainability and Behavior Change Certificate through the University of California San Diego Extension. The new certificate in Sustainability and Behavior Change provides an online setting for an advanced educational training in conservation psychology, behavior change strategies and community engagement tools. The discount expires Feb. 28.

World Sustainability Award & Emerging Sustainability Leader Award

Both awards encourage new initiatives and developments in sustainability with the goal of recognizing those who have made an outstanding academic or societal contribution to sustainability. The World Sustainability Award will be granted to individual researchers or research teams, while the Emerging Sustainability Leader Award will be granted to an individual researcher.

2018 Newman Civic Fellowship Nomination Cycle

The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes community-committed students who engage in collaborative action to create long-term social change, take action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization, and demonstrate the motivation and potential for effective long-term civic engagement. Nominations are due by Feb. 1.

Farm Forward Leadership Circle

Farm Forward is accepting applications to join its Leadership Circle, which are universities, businesses and restaurants that leverage buying power to change the way animals are raised for food. Once a member of the Leadership Circle, Farm Forward helps institutions align their supply chains with their values by providing a comprehensive set of tools and hands-on consulting.

MAXQDA Research Grants

MAXQDA, a software solution that facilitates and supports qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research projects, is offering students a $1,200 grant, created to give financial support and methodological training to student researchers whose fieldwork aims to study, bring awareness or contribute to empowerment initiatives in the Global South. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 15.

Guidelines for Universities Engaging in Social Responsibility

The new report aims to help universities successfully incorporate university social responsibility, defined as all aspects of a universities’ impact on society, in their strategies and everyday activities.
