A WARMING EXPERIENCE – Community Health Centers of Burlington needs volunteers to serve at its Winter Warming Shelter. Volunteers help get guests settled, assist with meal service, provide music, arts, conversation to enrich clients’ lives, and help keep the space clean and ordered. FRIENDLY VISITS – RSVP of Northwest Vermont is looking for volunteers to spend one-on-one time with a senior in Franklin, Highgate, Swanton or St. Albans. Visitors can take a senior on an outing once a week, grocery shop, accompany a senior to a medical appointment, or just sit and chat for an hour or so. THE KIDS ARE WAITING – Foster Grandparents Program invites “grandparents” to make a difference in the life of a child. Volunteers age 55 years and over can serve between 15 and 40 hours a week in Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle Counties and are particularly needed in St. Albans City Elementary School and Alburgh Community Educational Center. Tasks may include tutoring, mentoring and self-esteem building.  Foster Grandparents receive a small, non-taxable stipend. Background check required. TUTOR NEEDED – Winooski High School is looking for volunteers to tutor high school students in pre-Calc, Mondays and Fridays, 9:40 to 11 a.m. Background check required. Contact Stephanie Hackett at 578-5721 or email shackett@winooski.k12.vt.us.

SPREAD THE NEWS – Good New Garage is looking for volunteers to help in the office with tasks such as mailings, filing, answering phones, assembling donor thank you packets, etc. Background check required. They are also looking for drivers to move donated vehicles to the auto body shop, car wash, auction, etc., on an ongoing basis. FESTIVAL! – The Vermont International Festival celebrates the many cultures that make up our community by focusing on world crafts, performing arts, international cuisines, and ethnic traditions. Volunteers are needed during the event (December 1-3) and for several days before to help set up, sell tickets and food tokens, staff craft booths, break down, etc. Contact April Werner at 863-6713 or email april@vpal-us.org.

A TAXING TIME – United Way of Northwest Vermont offers free tax assistance for low-wage workers at workplaces through their Working Bridges Mobile Tax Preparer program. Volunteer tax preparers prepare electronic tax returns that enable working Vermonters receive the Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits they are entitled to. Training in classrooms or online is provided, and shifts of at least 4 hours a week from February through early April are available. Background check required.
