Outdoor Volunteer Opportunity Saturday, April 29th!

Have a Heart, Pull a Weed!
Join the Intervale Conservation Nursery and help us maintain the one-and-only Intervale’s public space by removing invasive plant species! These plants are introduced to the region and cause harm to local populations of animals and plants by competing with native and beneficial species for resources. The best way to get rid of invasive species is to pull them out of the ground completely!

What: Remove invasive species (oriental bittersweet, buckthorn, multiflora rose, bush honeysuckle, Japanese barberry, etc.) with hand tools and people power led by knowledgeable, experienced program staff.
When: Saturday April 29th 9am – noon; following the activity, there will be a Day in the Dirt community picnic lunch and activities at the Intervale Community Barn for all volunteers from noon – 2PM!

Where: Meet at the Intervale Center Farmhouse, 180 Intervale Road. Please carpool if possible, and park in the gravel lot on the left side of the road, across from Gardener’s Supply’s driveway!
We will be working with prickly, sticky, tough plant material. Please wear closed-toed shoes or boots, work gloves, and long pants/long-sleeved shirts as well as a water bottle, and rain gear and/or sun protection!
We have some tools but we’re hoping for a big turnout so please bring your own if you have any of the following: Pick axes, shovels, loppers (large pruners), tree saws etc. Please let us know if you can bring your own tools, thanks!

Volunteers earn City Market member worker hours and can join the Vermont Community Garden Network’s Day in the Dirt picnic!
