The Summit will bring together young professionals and emerging leaders alongside established environmental education leaders and innovators. Together they will focus their energies on identifying barriers, and imagining pathways to supporting and empowering a a new, diverse generation of environmental education leaders.

Common Ground High School, Urban Farm and Environmental Education Center cultivates habits of healthy living and sustainable environmental practices within a diverse community of young people, adults, and families. This summit is made possible by a capacity-building subgrant from the EECapacity project (www.eecapacity.net) to the New England Environmental Education Alliance. The United States Environmental Protection Agency funds the EECapacity Project through a cooperative agreement with the Cornell University Civic Ecology Lab.
   

The New England Environmental Education Alliance (NEEEA) has a 46-year history of leading, convening, and advancing environmental education in New England. The Alliance comprises the six professional environmental education associations in New England:

  • Connecticut Outdoor and Environmental Education Association (COEEA)
  • Maine Environmental Education Association (MEEA)
  • Massachusetts Environmental Education Society (MEES)
  • New Hampshire Environmental Educators (NHEE)
  • Rhode Island Environmental Education Association (RIEEA)
  • Vermont State-Wide Environmental Education Programs (SWEEP)

An award winning member of the Affiliate Network of the North American Association for Environmental Education, NEEEA was honored in 2013 as the network’s Outstanding Affiliate for its excellence in advancing the field of environmental education.

 

The Alliance works together to bolster environmental education by: engaging across sectors to cultivate and enrich the environmental education community, strengthening the practice and the practitioners of environmental education, developing and nurturing environmental leaders, and increasing support and leveraging resources for environmental education.
