We are delighted to be offering our course at Snow Farm, New England’s craft school, where we have some exciting design projects to create together as we guide you through the ecological design process.  Your clients will be the stewards of the land and historic farm at Snow Farm.  It is also an opportunity for you to glimpse artisans at work with welding, glass working, ceramics, textiles, etc, as many of the local craft skills that are truly needed in our resilient communities!

We will visit the following sites to study long-standing permaculture projects:

  • A local ecovillage: Sirius Community at the Hearthstone Village, where we have generated and implemented about 40 permaculture designs for their land over the years. We will study their food systems, waste treatment systems, forest gardens, natural buildings, and social structure. Sirius has been in existence for 35 + years.
  • A  Beyond Sustainability Home in Amherst MA, where Ryan Harb (Ryan is a grad of our course, founder of the UMASS Permaculture Initiative and winner of the White House Award Campus Champions for Change –  which included shaking hands with the President of the USA as a recognition of his permaculture work on his college campus!). This home site and permaculture demo is in existence now for 5 years.
  • The UMASS Permaculture Gardens has been growing with the creation of on-campus permaculture jobs for about 4 years now, after inspiration from this Permaculture Design Course.
  • The Hickory Gardens, the homestead of designer Jono Neiger, have been evolving for 13 years now.  Jono is the founder and designer at the well known Regenerative Design Group, a leading design firm in Western MA, and he is also a fabulous instructor at the Conway School of Landscape Design.
  • Wildside Cottages and Gardens, a project in existence now for about 8 years, is a demonstration of what one woman can do as a legacy project for the future.  This site is complete with an off grid green home, living roof, root cellar, forest garden, market garden, greenhouse, etc.

There is much to look forward to!  You can peruse our website to learn about our stellar staff of instructors and read about the informative curriculum for this internationally recognized Permaculture Certification.

As for the tuition, tuition is a sliding scale of $1350- $1600, which includes meals.  There are work trade discounts for students who need financial assistance and an application form is found online.  For anyone paying higher on the sliding scale, the funds go to support other students in the course.   There is an EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION DATE Of FEBRUARY 1st to save $150 off tuition.  As for accommodations, there are lovely dorms at Snow Farm (dorms have two beds per room, so they are quiet spaces) for additional fees.  We do have ways to support you to self-fundraise for this course, which can also be found on the website at the side tab next to “Register Now”.   We are happy to talk with you in preparations for this course so you can arrive ready to gather the skills and resources you need to further your path in permaculture.
