Important Walk-Bike meeting September 10

Hello all advocates for walking and biking in Burlington!

What: Important public hearing on North Avenue improvements
When: 6 pm, Wednesday, September 10
Where: Burlington Police Department Community Room (1 North Ave.)
Why: Support major improvements on North Ave. for walking and biking!

Next week, on Wednesday 9/10, the City Council’s Transportation, Energy, Utilities Committee (TEUC) will hold a public hearing to get community input on the North Avenue Advisory Committee’s recommendations (listed below).  Please plan to attend and speak in support of these exciting improvements for the Avenue!  The Burlington City Council has final approval on exactly what will — and won’t — be done, and you can impact their thinking by coming to the meeting.  The Advisory Committee’s recommendations include:

  • Convert the four lane section to three lanes within 3 years
  • Remove parking north of Washington/Berry
  • Install bike lanes, including a protected lane (aka one-way cycletrack) from Institute Rd. to VT 127
  • 25mph speed limit
  • Improvements to pedestrian crossings and intersections
