Burlington Free Press Opioid Crisis Event at Champlain – Wednesday, 12/5, 7PM

Next Wednesday evening, December 5, at 7:00 PM, the Burlington Free Press will be holding a community discussion on the opioid crisis here in the Champlain Room.

The Free Press was moved to continue the conversation sparked by the well-publicized death of Maddie Linsenmeir, a local mom who died this fall from an overdose.  Maddie’s sister, Kate O’Neill, wrote a frank, eloquent obituary, which went viral and received national media attention.  When Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo weighed in on Facebook about the obituary, his words went viral as well.

In recent weeks, the Free Press approached the college to serve as venue for this important conversation.  With help from our students and faculty, the panel discussion will be live-streamed on the Free Press’ Facebook page, Twitter and Youtube channels.  The panelists will include Kate O’Neill, Chief Del Pozo, Gary De Carolis, Executive Director of the Turning Point Center, and Champlain student Liza Ryan, who is in recovery and has been a leading voice on issues of addiction and public policy.  Champlain’s Social Work faculty member Tarn Foerg will give a brief welcome and share some context around EHS’s connection to this work in our community.

Doors open at 6:00 PM for networking and light refreshments.
