The American Public Health Association (APHA) cites 2017 as “the year of climate change and health,” and we agree that it’s vital to talk about the climate crisis’ impact on public health. That’s why Climate Reality held a Climate & Health Meeting yesterday in partnership with the APHA, the University of Washington Center for Health and the Global Environment, and other leading organizations.

Led by Climate Reality Founder and Chairman Al Gore, the event provided a space for climate scientists, public health officials, health care providers, and other diverse stakeholders to discuss solutions to the critical impacts of the climate crisis on public health issues, such as extreme weather events, transmission of infectious diseases, clean water, and food security.

The Climate & Health Meeting featured more than 20 expert speakers, including Dr. Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association; Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute; Dr. Jonathan Patz, director of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Global Health Institute; and many other renowned public health leaders. Climate Reality Leaders Susan Pacheco, Lise Van Susteren, and Catherine Flowers also joined us as panelists.
