Happy April – the PLAN team is in their final weeks of zero waste road tripping, and we’ve got some fun things on the horizon! First off, this year’s Students for Zero Waste Conference will take place on November 11th and 12th at UNH campus in Durham, New Hampshire. Registration will be opening soon, so stay tuned! Read on for our call for workshop and speaking proposals, as well as updates from the road, an exciting new addition to the team, and details for our annual Art of Reusefundraiser and Artist Dumpster Dive.

Propose your idea to be a speaker, workshop leader, or plenary participant at the 3rd Annual Students for Zero Waste conference! Proposals are due on June 1st. Stay tuned for registration, and get in touch with us ahead of time about travel scholarships for large groups.

Artist Dumpster Dive & The Art of Reuse 2016 This year’s Art of Reuse fundraiser will be happening on Thursday, August 11th. The Art of Reuse is an exhibition and silent auction of art from innovative artists who incorporate recycled materials and messages about waste and consumption into their work. Tickets ($25) will be on sale soon – we’d love to see you there! We’ll also be bringing together local makers in May for an “Artist Dumpster Dive“, where they will forage for art materials during Trash2Treasure collections at UNH to create a piece for the fundraiser in August. Genna and Chris had a wonderful time speaking at the Zero Waste Youth Summit in San Francisco, and were amazed by their visit to Recology, a waste transfer station for the Bay Area. (They employ falconers to intimidate the seagulls away… how cool is that???) Faye and Alex are currently in Colorado after wrapping up an eventful week in at the University of Wyoming. Nimrun Dhillon will be joining us this summer as a Campus Coordination Fellow. A little about her: Contrary to what one might think, Nim is allergic to computers despite attending the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she is (almost done!) studying Sustainability, Literature & Composition, and Business. At RIT, she co-founded the Goodbye, Goodbuy! move-out program, and works towards improving campus sustainability efforts. She can’t wait to get started with PLAN because zero waste is so fetch.
