| Invitation to Join the NSSE 2016 Sustainability Education ConsortiumInstitutions that are administering the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) have the option to participate in the Sustainability Education Consortium, which will add a set of questions to the survey to gauge student engagement with sustainability education. Sustainability Education Consortium members will receive a cross-institution data set on student sustainability engagement that they can use to assess institutional strengths and weaknesses compared to peers. If you are interested in having students at your college or university answer these questions, you can use Participating Institution Search to find out if your institution will be administering NSSE 2016. If not, the deadline for registering for NSSE is this Sept. 25. After you’ve registered to administer NSSE, the deadline for participants to register for the Sustainability Education Consortium is Oct. 23. Contact your institutional research department (or the equivalent) or NSSE’s Consortium Coordinator to register. |
| Call for Papers: World Symposium on Sustainable Development at Universities at MITThe third annual World Symposium on Sustainable Development at Universities (WSSD-U-2016) will be held at the Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Mass., onSept. 14-16, 2016. The theme of the event is Designing Tomorrow’s Campus: Resiliency, Vulnerability, and Adaptation. The conference will encompass teaching, research, campus greening and extension. Co-hosts are Dr Julie Newman from MIT’s Office of Sustainability and Prof. Walter Leal from Manchester Metropolitan University. WSSD-U-2016 is expected to have 250 participants from over 30 countries. Deadline to submit an abstract is Sept. 30. Deadline to submit a paper is Jan. 16, 2016. |
| Call for Design and Construction Projects Interested in Achieving High Energy PerformanceAccelerate Performance is a U.S. Department of Energy-funded initiative that empowers building owners and developers to achieve desired energy performance goals by requiring specific goals at the forefront of the project. The Accelerate Performance team is currently seeking building owners or developers interested in piloting this approach to constructing the next generation of low and zero-energy buildings at a cost comparable to current construction. Projects should be in the pre-planning phase and before the design team is selected. |

| Engaging Across Boundaries Webinar SeriesColleges and universities are increasingly being called upon to deepen their engagement, both internally and externally, to address economic, social and environmental challenges. This type of engagement includes partnering with external stakeholders, local communities, community agencies, local, national and international government bodies, non-profit organizations and networks. The Engaging Across Boundaries webinar series provided by AASHE invites campus communities to brainstorm, discuss and share resources, skills, solutions and tools for a meaningful engagement of all campus constituents. The next webinar, listed below in the events section, is The Power of Civic Engagement in Sustainability on Sept. 29 from 3-4:30 p.m. Eastern. |
