Campaign Description:
Food and Water Watch and the Save Antibiotics Campaign are launching a big new grassroots effort in Vermont, and we want you to be a part of it. 80% of antibiotics sold in the US are used on factory farms, mostly to compensate for filthy conditions and prevent disease in their animals. The American Medical Association and World Health Organization agree these practices pose a threat to everyone’s health and are contributing to a health crisis where 2 million Americans a year contract antibiotic resistant infections. We need to act now to make sure that the next time our friends or family members get sick, the antibiotics they receive will work.
The good news is we can create a world where we can count on our medicine working, and where are farms are healthy. Here in Vermont, we have a unique opportunity to shift support for limiting antibiotic use on factory farms nationwide because the federal legislation will pass through Senator Sanders committee and we need his support. In order to do that we are working to pass city council resolutions in support of his co-sponsorship in cities across Vermont.
Job/Activities/Scope: We’re looking for bright, talented volunteers and interns to help us on all aspects of this critical campaign. Intern and volunteer activities would include actions such as student and community recruitment, grassroots leadership development, online and offline visibility, media relations and press events, business outreach and coalition building.
