Call for Workshop Leaders for Conservation Field Day with the WVPD

The Winooski Valley Park District’s (WVPD) is looking for volunteers to lead workshops for the 28th Annual Conservation Field Day on May 21, 2014!

Who: Volunteers to lead engaging, hands-on workshops geared towards the 5th grade level on a wide variety of topics focused around conservation, nature, stewardship and environmental science. Examples of workshops include composting, plant and animal ID, water ecology, water quality, food chains, etc. They are always open to suggestions and excited for new workshops as well!

What: Each May the WVPD host 5th grade students from schools in the WVPD’s member towns for a special day of conservation and environmental education. This year they expect to have about 300 students, teachers and chaperones attend!

Conservation Field Day event timeline:

8:30-9:00am                Workshop leader arrival, check-in and set up – coffee and bagels will be available at check-in, in the WVPD’s office

8:45-9:15am                Schools arrive and check in

9:30-9:50am                Opening Ceremony at the Picnic Shelter – Demonstration from the Lake Champlain Retriever Club

9:50-10:00am              Students and Workshop leaders head to their first workshop station together. As a workshop leader you will meet your first group at the opening ceremony and accompany them to your station for the first round of workshops.

10:00am-12:30pm       Workshops – workshops will last 20 minutes, with a 10 minute transition time in between. Students will rotate through a series of five workshops throughout this time. Leaders will conduct the same workshop with five different groups. Each group will have about 10+/- students, along with teachers and chaperones.

12:30-1:00pm              Picnic Lunch and Special Treat! We invite all workshop leaders to stay for the picnic lunch, please bring a bagged lunch to enjoy and stay for a special treat!
