What: Burlington Walk Bike Council Meeting
When: Thursday February, 27 5:30 – 7pm
Where: Burlington City Hall, Room 12
The February Walk/Bike Council meeting will be especially interesting. Join us to hear guest speaker UVM Professor and traveler Lisa Aultman-Hall for her talk:
Studying Bicycle Transportation in the West:
10 Bitter(?) Pills to Swallow
Lisa will lead a stimulating discussion on the ins and outs of bicycle transportation in California and in the Green Mountain State!
Between June 2012 and June 2013, Lisa was based at the University of California Davis conducting transportation research. Davis (pop 66,000) is located in the flat central valley of California and is often considered the bike capital of the U.S. with 55 miles of bicycle paths, 4 bike overpasses, about 13 tunnels and 50+ miles of on-road bicycle lanes.
During her year away, Lisa traveled extensively within 5 western states studying bicycle infrastructure and cyclist behavior. For Lisa, the lessons learned re-frame the challenges of advancing bicycle transportation in Burlington. At this month’s BWBC meeting, Lisa will share her experience out West and how we can apply these lessons in Vermont.
Lisa Aultman-Hall is a Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Vermont and Director of the UTC program at the UVM Transportation Research Center. Lisa also serves on the Board of Directors at Local Motion.
