Open Streets (VT) needs volunteers!

Open Streets BTV

Join us on Sunday, September 17th from 10:00AM-3:00PM! This free program provides the people of Burlington the chance to explore miles of urban streets in a safe, car-free environment, enjoying fun and healthy activities along the way.

Open Streets provides people with places to mingle, play, and shop, all while promoting healthy living and active transportation. The goals of Open Streets are to 1) Increase health and physical activity of Burlington-area residents; 2) activate and celebrate the streets, showcasing projects that support active transportation; 3) build community in the city’s vibrant neighborhoods; and 4) increase economic opportunities for local businesses. The route will be filled with fun activities for all ages, including chalk art, street sports, yoga & dance workshops, food trucks, and alternative transportation demos.

Volunteers make this day of outdoor, neighborhood and family fun possible! We hope that you will consider signing up for one of the many volunteer opportunities available for this event. This year, we are looking for around 50 volunteers to watch over closed intersections, provide information to participants, and escort local traffic so that the route can remain safe and car-free.

Here are a few reasons to volunteer for Open Streets BTV:
A really cool volunteer t-shirt! We are topping last year’s purple shirts with something spectacular for you to have as an exclusive Open Streets BTV volunteer keepsake.
Be entered to win lots of prizes! Everything from gift certificates to Burlington restaurants to bus passes.
City Market working member hours. All volunteers are eligible to count their Open Streets BTV shift and training time towards City Market working member volunteer hours.
Building a community movement for safe walking and biking. Events like this are key to illustrating to community leaders the sheer number of people who want to walk and bike and that creating safe streets should be a priority

There are three volunteer jobs for the event, check out more details at http://signup.com/go/OgwsfGg.
