As a bike advocate, longtime bike commuter and Old North End resident, I’m really happy to be helping to organize Open Streets BTV, Vermont’s “ciclovia” again this year onSeptember 13th from 10am to 3pm. Last year’s inaugural event was a tremendous success, with an estimated 2000+ participants.
For those of you new to the idea of ciclovia, Open Streets BTV creates several miles of car-free streets, letting people on bikes, skaters, scooters, foot and more take them over for the day. There are fun activities in the parks focused on wellness, exercise, family fun, bikes and art in the parks and street along the route.
We need over 80 volunteers to pull this off and have 28 people signed up so far. We need 60 more in just two weeks! Please grab a friend and sign up – you can be located together along the route! You get:
– an awesome t-shirt
– the pride of building bike/walk culture in Vermont
– prizes like CCTA bus passes, Carshare Vermont vouchers and BikeLink locker cards.
Events like this are so important to showing decision makers the number of people who care about biking and walking, and who want streets to be better and safer for biking and walking! Velo Quebec says that Tour de l’Ile was one of the key ways that they were able to get support for bike infrastructure in Montreal. Let’s make this happen here – sign up to volunteer NOW! https://vols.pt/P5kDnv
