Sustain Champlain and collaborating departments are hosting a wide variety of events in February as our Sustainability Month. And, at the same time, we are hosting our 5th Annual Kill-A-Watt Challenge – an electricity reduction competition in the Champlain residence halls. New in 2015: Champlain will participate in the Campus Conservation Nationals, which offers a dashboard that everyone will be able to check out to see weekly electrical usage for each res hall.
Sustainability Month highlighted events:
- Daily tabling mid-day by community partner organizations
- Weekly film nights hosted by the Eco-Reps, that will also show brief environmental justice related TED talks, in celebration of Black History month
- Presentation by Dr. Stephanie Kaza of UVM on “Rachel Carson as Hope and Inspiration”. Wednesday, February 11, at 3:30pm in the Morgan Room of Aiken Hall
- Screening of documentary “Sweet Dreams“. This film follows the story of a remarkable group of Rwandan women as they emerge from the devastation of the genocide to create a new future for themselves. It is a powerful story of resilience, healing,sustainability and hope. Generously sponsored by Island Homemade Ice Cream- who will be bringing free ice cream! Thursday, February 12 at 7pm in Alumni Auditorium
