City Market (map)the_dish_web_header_51

Pennywise PantryWith this interactive and hands-on tour, participants will learn how to shop for affordable, fresh, long-lasting, and nutritious foods at City Market. We will begin by exploring the Produce and Bulk departments, learning a simple method for finding the best value on fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans by paying attention to the price per pound. Then we will enter the Grocery aisles and Perishables coolers, to learn to become savvy label readers as we shop for nourishing, long-lasting foods that contain 5 ingredients or fewer. No matter what kind of diet you follow, these pennywise tools will help you stock your kitchen with variety of healthy, local, and even organic foods and develop a better understanding of Co-op sales.

If the date and time above don’t work for your schedule, or if you would feel more comfortable with a one-on-one individualized tour, please contact our Outreach and Education Coordinator, Meredith Knowles, at mknowles@citymarket.coop or 802-861-9757.

The Dish: Food Waste

Wednesday, December 7, 20165:30pm to 7:00pm
ArtsRiot (map)

The Dish

Food waste is a buzzword these days. From buying “ugly” fruits and vegetables to industrial composting, food waste has become both a household and large scale topic.  What policies already exist, or should exist, to help mitigate food waste? How are these policies helping or hurting individuals who are working to reduce food waste from field to plate?  And what can you do, as a consumer, to make sure you are making full use of the food you have?  Join us as we dive into these questions and gain insight from a panel of local experts for a lively discussion on food waste.

Brought to you by City Market and the Intervale Center with special thanks to ArtsRiot.

FREE! $5 suggested donation to benefit Intervale Center.

Doors open at 5:00pm. Cash bar.

McClure Multigenerational Center (map)

Mosaic of Flavor

This monthly series is a collaboration with the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program.  For December we will come together and prepare a cozy “breakfast for dinner” of Ustipci, puffy and delicious Bosnian doughnuts which we will stuff with an assortment of sweet and savory fillings.  To accompany these popular doughnuts, we will brew Bosanska Kafa, an intense and flavorful Bosnian coffee.  Nada Popovac came to the United States from Sarajevo in 1998 with her husband and two daughters.  She has worked at the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program for 17 years.
