Posted Job Title:    Waste Reduction Coordinator       

Description: To reduce waste at Champlain College through education, outreach, and infrastructural means. The Coordinator will achieve this goal by working in close conjunction with the Sustainability Director.

Primary Duties:

  • Maintain and improve current recycling and composting program, including:
    1. Assist with special event set-up (bins, signs, etc.)
    2. Coordinating volunteers to staff waste separation stations during event such as Open Houses and Commencement
    3. Annual review of bin inventory
    4. Ensuring proper signage is in place
    5. Conducting outreach on current procedures to students, faculty, and staff
  • Assist with initiatives and campaigns that actively target waste reduction including:
    1. Manage the student-run Swap Shop
    2. Identifying sources of waste reduction and developing alternatives, such as single-sided printing/copying; use of disposable items on campus (e.g.; silverware at catered events or paper plates in office break rooms)
    3. Promoting use of reusable mugs, water bottles, and bags
    4. Work with Eco-Reps and Sustain Champlain to organize and host campus events that support waste reduction goals, such as:
      1. Waste sorts
      2. Workshops, art competitions, films, and speakers
      3. Field trips to CWSD Materials Recovery Facility and Green Mountain Compost Facility

Required Qualifications:

  • Comfort with working independently
  • Passion for waste reduction
  • Organization and good time management
  • Ability to communicate clearly (in person, via email, etc.)
